What you will be doing
Routing lies at the heart of our Gelato platform. This is the function that decides in the moment which of our rapidly growing network of print houses and logistics partners is best placed to receive a customer order, produce and ship the finished product to the final destination. Our algorithm balances speed, quality, cost and environmental impact (amongst other factors) to find the smartest route for each of our millions of orders. The algorithm finds not only great results for our customers, but also controls volume and stock at our production partners to ensure they are operating at peak efficiency.
As Data Scientist Routing, you will work with business, engineering, and tech functions where you will have opportunities to develop and evaluate machine learning models using large datasets to drive automation and efficiency in our order management process. You will have the opportunity to solve existing business problems and collaborate with teams to deliver future innovation in this industry.
You will help answer fundamental questions of correlation between inputs and outputs and driving the most efficient routing strategy. You will lead the thinking for writing deterministic checks, collect defects identified from Machine Learning and deterministic rules and pass for remediation. You will be responsible to translate the requirements of this program into technical requests for the tech team.

This is a key role within the Gelato team, and we are seeking a skilled Data Scientist who can help us both shape strategy and to execute against a bold and aggressive roadmap to support Gelato’s rapidly scaling business operations.

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or similar field from a top tier University
5+ years of relevant experience with data modelling, applying analytics, machine learning.
Skilled with programming languages
Experience in data visualization and BI tools
Highly analytical, with a bias for objective measurement, facts and reasoning
Great at telling a story through factual data
Self-starter, hands on and comfortable with ambiguity
Strong inter-personal skills including written and oral skills. Able to effectively communicate with all levels
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or similar field
Expertise / Extensive knowledge in specialized areas such as time series analysis, reinforcement learning
Advanced skills with Python and SQL
Experience in supply chain or related functions
Track record of tangible business impact based on ML implementation
