Design Engineer

Volvo Powertrain is the Strategic Centre for powertrain issues in the Volvo Group. The scope covers complete powertrain systems, components such as engines, transmissions and driven axles, including development, manufacturing, sourcing, partnership, installation service and support in close co-operation with the customers. Volvo Powertrain has operations in Sweden, France and North- and South America and Japan. Within Volvo Powertrain site Malmö in Sweden, we are looking for a Design Engineer. The Volvo Powertrain team in Malmö supports the Volvo Group with engineering resources especially in the engine development domain, with focus on engine performance development and on turbosystem issues. Within the Design team we design components for engines, turbochargers and gas turbines. We also design advanced equipment for component and engine testing. Together with our parallel groups, Engine Performance & Analysis and Testing, we manage assignments varying in size from a few hours to full product development including all phases from pre-studies to product validation. Job description: As a design engineer you have to find the best solution, taking performance, cost, weight and packaging into account.You will be part of a design team led by a project manger and your specific responsibility will be to secure component interfaces and function. You will work cross functionally with a lot of contacts with purchasing, suppliers, testing and other product development departments, both locally and on other sites within Volvo Powertrain. A good knowledge of Product Data Management systems (PDM) is an advantage. Travelling is not frequent but will occur. Examples of your tasks: Dimensioning and engineering of components in 3D-CAD (Pro/Engineer Wildfire) Engineering of cast components Installation studies of turbo components and assemblies Creating component technical specifications in compliance with company requirements Preferred qualifications: Bachelor Degree in Engineering or equivalent educationor at least 5 years experience within the mechanical engineering field 3D CAD modelling skills are needed Good knowledge of PDM systems Good knowledge in material properties Experience from engine engineering or vehicle development is a merit Our contact interfaces are international, why it is important that you are able to easily communicate in English both spoken and written We believe that you have the ability to work in a systematic and structured way.
