Mid Sweden University, with about 15000 students and 1000 employees, is a multi-campus university based in Härnösand, Sundsvall and Östersund.The Department of Engineering and Sustainable Development offers courses in construction, energy, ecotechnology, environmental science, sports technology, and quality and leadership development.The research programme at the department is strong and is developing rapidly.Within the University framework "The Forest as a Resource" the department is participating in a comprehensive program with research at all levels "from seed to wood-based products to waste-management." Important interactions exist with major industrial organisations with focus on forestry, bioenergy, wood products, pulp and paper. Mid Sweden University, at the Department of Engineering and Sustainable Development, is seeking applicants for the following post Doctoral student Ecotechnology and Environmental Science Ref.No.MIUN 2008/1117 Job description: A sustainable built environment requires that buildings are energy efficient and the supply system is renewable-based.With production of low energy (or passive) buildings, the energy use and greenhouse gas emission decreases in the operation phase, but their relative importance increases during the construction phase.The successful candidate will carry out environmental and economic analysis of construction and operation of traditional buildings versus low energy building, with consideration of the energy supply system.Especially, the implications of using wood as a frame material in multi-storey building construction will be analyzed in a life-cycle perspective with a focus on the production, use and disposal of construction materials including the entire material chain from natural resource extraction, material processing and assembly, building operation, and various post-use material-handling options. Conditions for employment: This is full time position (100%).Duties should begin as soon as possible.The position is linked to a registration as PhD student in Ecotechnology and Environmental Science at Mid Sweden University.Monthly salary: SEK 20,700 (approximately EUR 2150) Qualification requirements: Qualified candidates will have a bachelor's degree of at least 120 credits including specialization of at least 60 credits in Ecotechnology and Environmental Science or related subjects.A master's degree in the field of civil engineering is a significant merit.Knowledge of system analysis or life cycle analysis is an asset.Candidates should have good knowledge of English.The post is stationed in Östersund, Sweden.In the interest of gender equality Mid Sweden University aims to employ an equal number of men and women.Hence, women are particularly encouraged to apply for the above post.
