Doctoral student in materials and development of nanocomposite coatings

Arbetsbeskrivning

The School of Engineering, JTH, is one of four schools that are part of Jönköping University. It is our vision to be leaders in Europe in developing and spreading new technology and knowledge that reinforce the international competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises.

JTH offers education at all levels. Contact with industry is an important part of our education in order to ensure that the education is anchored in reality, and to acquire practical experience.

Research and third-cycle education are targeted at Industrial product realisation in cooperation, especially applications for small and medium-sized enterprises. Research takes place in collaboration with companies, research institutes and other university colleges of technology, in common projects.

Within the research group Materials and Manufacturing there are good possibilities for personal development by participating in research projects mostly done in close co-operation with industry.

The research is interdisciplinary and includes the whole chain from coating process and material properties to materials science as well as modelling and simulation.

The department today consists of 35 researchers and PhD students with background in material science, chemistry, mechanics and physics.

The research project will deal with electrodeposition of nanocomposite coatings for improved wear resistance as replacement of hard chromium coatings in demanding industrial applications. The research will cover the selection of appropriate nanoparticles and metal matrix, the dispersion plating applying direct and pulse current, optimization of the process parameters and evaluation of microstructure, corrosion and wear resistance.
