Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet Institutionen för vatten och miljö i Uppsala 1 doktorand i forskarutbildningsämnet: Ecology Towards a mechanistic understanding of resilience of alternative stable states in lakes The Department of Aquatic Sciences and Assessment (www.slu.se/aquatic-sciences) has a unique national responsibility for assessing the condition of Swedish surface waters with respect to both water chemistry and the aquatic biota.The mission of the department is to provide the knowledge about human impacts on aquatic ecosystems that society needs to achieve its environmental goals for surface waters.This mission involves the design and implementation of long-term surveillance programs across a range of spatial and temporal scales, studies of the chemical and ecological processes underlying environmental change, as well as the knowledge and tools needed to interpret environmental data and assess management alternatives.We now would like to enlarge our research group by announcing a PhD student position in aquatic ecology.WORK DESCRIPTION: The successful applicant will be part of the European project REFRESH and carry out research at the interface between metacommunity ecology and ecological complexity theory using experimental approaches.Mechanisms mediating plankton and benthic community resilience will be studied in response to experimental manipulations of nutrient conditions, water level and dispersal rates. Kvalifikationer Applicants should hold an MSc in aquatic ecology or equivalent.Good knowledge of (meta)community ecology and complex systems theory is meriting.Drivers license is required.The application should include a Curriculum Vitae, a short description of experience indicating your suitability for the position and why you are interested, copies of degree certificates from higher education, relevant publication, and contact information of at least two references.The position is full-time and will be granted for a period of four years, starting as soon as possible, but no later than 1 April 2011.Anställningsform Anställning som doktorand i 4 år SLU är en arbetsplats där mångfald och jämn könsfördelning eftersträvas.
