Environmental Engineer

Arbetsbeskrivning

Company Description
At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.

Introduction

The Occupational Health & Safety and Environmental Protection Unit (HSE), which supports the Organization in the implementation and enforcement of its Safety policy is looking for an environmental engineer. In the HSE Unit, the Environment Group (ENV) monitors the impact of the Organization activities on the public and on the local environment and advices on improvement measures.

Are you an environmental engineer, experienced in environmental impact evaluation of large-scale projects, familiar with associated regulatory requirements and best practices? Join CERN's Environment Group to contribute with your skills to the Future CERN Collider (FCC) feasibility study and collaborate with the environmental FCC feasibility study team. Take part!

Functions

As an Environmental Engineer, you will actively contribute to support the environmental FCC feasibility study team that is in charge of the environmental initial state analysis for FCC and of an environmental high-level forecast on affected places by the FCC transnational project concept.

You will:

-Liaise with the Safety study of the FCC project concept for aspects that are typically covered by environmental impact studies, such as electromagnetic radiation, community health and security, fire, hazardous chemical agents, cryogenic safety, operational health and safety and environmental monitoring;
-Advice the environmental FCC feasibility study team for identifying relevant environmental aspects and associated impacts of the FCC project concept, based on past, present, and planned CERN activities;
-Contribute to the activities of the working group on the management of excavated materials;
-Support the environmental FCC feasibility study team for the development of an environmentally responsible project scenario, covering approaches such as carbon neutrality, circular economy, and avoid-reduce-compensate principles;
