Arbetsuppgifter
This is a postdoctoral position within the Quantum Information Group at
The quantum information
LLC comprises research activities at the technical, science and medical
faculties and has close to 100 researchers.LLC is since 1995 a European
Large Scale Infrastructure.
The work within the Quantum Information Group is focussed on the
experimental development of hardware for quantum computer and quantum
state storage applications based on rare-earth-ion-doped inorganic
crystals.The longer term goal is the development of several qubit
quantum processors and our current research is right now focused on the
following three closely connected projects:
1.Experimental demonstration of a control not gate in rare earth ion
doped crystals
2 High fidelity and high efficiency quantum state storage and recall of
single- or few-photon wave-packets in rare earth ion doped crystals
3.Experimentally demonstrating the basic components and interactions
for a scalable quantum computing scheme in rare earth ion-doped
inorganic crystals

There is one postgraduate student working in each of these three
projects and the postdoctoral researcher is expected to support all
these three projects and, within his/her capacity, also take an informal
supervisory role for the postgraduate students.The group has
constructed a frequency-stabilised dye-laser with >100 microsecond
coherence time which is required for our projects.
We have recently carried out our first experiments with this laser
system and demonstrated arbitrary single-qubit operations with a full
quantum state tomography yielding an initial fidelity of >85 %.

Information Group is carried out in a highly international environment
with many international partners.

Qualifications
The successful applicant is expected to have a solid background in
experimental optics/quantum electronics.Experience of continuous wave
single-mode laser sources (dye lasers Ti:S lasers, diode lasers, etc.)
can be especially valuable.We also believe the successful applicant
will have a background in quantum information or possibly coherent light
matter interaction.Large parts of our experimental equipment is
controlled through Labview and MatLab programs so familiarity with
Labview and MatLab software can be an advantage.
