Global Battery Expert - Volvo Energy

With new technologies and business models increasing in importance at high speed, the transportation and infrastructure industries are changing more and at higher pace than ever before. As the Volvo Group, we are accelerating to drive our industry forward also in these important areas. Do you want to join our journey and shape tomorrow’s society together with us?

Working at Volvo Energy, you are here to make a fundamental break through and propel electrification, from development of charging and infrastructure solutions to monitor and optimize, refurbish/remanufacture, reuse/repurpose and recycle state-of-the-art batteries that power our Volvo Group products. Joining us means working in a global context with people from diverse backgrounds and different nationalities while contributing to the core business and results of Volvo Group. We are goal oriented and business focused people who believe that the best results are achieved while having fun and when we challenge each other. Sustainability and diversity in our DNA, since Volvo Energy was created in April 2021. The story continues here.

We are looking for a new member to join our team for the position as Global Battery Expert.

You will be given a unique opportunity to shape and drive the early development of Volvo Energy together with the leadership team and a set of skilled and committed colleagues. Together we will work on solutions that will drive economically viable circularity and take us to a sustainable future. With high speed and agility, we will support the Volvo Group to meet and exceed customers’ expectations and thereby contribute to a society that we all want to live in.

You will make a difference
We now need to strengthen our team with world-class battery competence. You will get the opportunity to take an active role in one of our top initiatives, which is expanding the life of the batteries for the usage in second life. You will work closely with our amazing colleagues within the engineering team that focuses on first life.

Your starting point will be to build up an ecosystem for Volvo Group with the purpose of optimizing the batteries during the complete life cycle from a sustainability perspective. To understand the ageing, failure mechanisms and safety for different applications will be a crucial part of the optimization process.

The location for the position is flexible and will be in Gothenburg, Sweden, or in Bangalore, India.

How you will create success for yourself and Volvo Energy
Imagine yourself working with a new challenge. Do you focus on the details or do you prefer to take a holistic and long-term view? Do you take a theoretical perspective or practical one? Or are you one of those who can’t choose between these approaches? Who rather combine your curiosity, analytical side and your sense of details in finding the best solution in every challenge? What might seem like an impossible combination for some is the fuel that drives you. You define your battery expertise as part of your DNA and you have a simplicity of understanding its components on a cellular level. Who knows, maybe your hobby is to create prediction models to prolong the battery’s future usage?

As our business area is new, you need to share our curiosity for new technologies, tools and ways-of-working and constantly want to take it to the next level. You welcome and embrace this chance to work in a smart and modern way, where we together are the catalysts to make our desired future happen.

We can promise you great colleagues and some truly exciting opportunities. You will work in a global environment that is purpose-driven and value-based and that truly values diversity and inclusiveness. We will provide you with developmental prospects both professionally and personally. If our entrepreneurial spirit, adaptability and customer-focused mindset light your inner fire, we might be a great match!

Qualifications likely required to be successful
Master’s Degree or PhD in Electrochemistry, Electrical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or other equivalent background within battery cell technology. We except you to have a deep understanding of the electrochemical process in the cell.
Significant working experience with Li-ion battery cells, particular about ageing, safety, cell testing and measurement technology.
