The Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (RWI) is an independent academic institution established in 1984.The purpose of the Institute is to promote research, training and academic education in the fields of human rights and humanitarian law and to initiate, develop, and support other activities in these fields.In fulfilling its mandate, the Institute collaborates with a number of academic institutions and international organisations dealing with human rights and humanitarian law.The Institute organises capacity development programmes for the promotion of human rights standards and democratic values in a number of developing countries primarily with the support of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).HEAD OF THE DEPARTMENT FOR RESEARCH AND ACADEMIC EDUCATION Summary: The Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law announces a new post as Head of the Department for Research and Academic Education.The post is a permanent position, with a six-month probation period, starting in 2007, details to be agreed.Job description: The Head of the Department for Research and Academic Education shall - work in close co-operation with and report to the Director; - manage and plan the activities at the department for research and academic education; - in co-operation with the other members of management decide on guidelines and strategies for the activities at the department, resource allocation included; - strengthen the Institute's research profile and establish contacts and co-operation with other academic institutions and research centres; - together with the other members of management promote the integration of research activities with other activities at the Institute; - manage and develop research projects, as well as develop strategies for research activities at the Institute; - conduct her/his own research; - contribute to the in-house production of educational material; - recommend manuscripts for publication in the Institute's publications series; - in consultation with the librarians manage acquisition of material to the Institute's library; - be in charge of the development of funding applications, budgets and annual action plans regarding the activities at the department; - have the main responsibility for activity reporting at the department, including project reporting; and - have the responsibility for development and salary talks with the staff at the department.Qualifications: - PhD, LLD or equivalent university degree with a specialisation in human rights law, humanitarian law or other related fields; - A minimum of at least three years' professional postdoctoral experience in the Institute's field of activities; - Experience from Nordic research environment and university organisation is a merit; - Managerial, organisational, analytical and interpersonal skills; - Cultural sensitivity and judgement; and - Fluency in English Ref.no: RE07.The application deadline is 2 March 2007.Applications will be short-listed by an independent academic expert.RWI is an equal opportunity employer.For further information, please contact Mr.
