The English School has grown rapidly since it opened in 2000 and has a current student population of 80 students.Future growth of the school is estimated to reach between 120-150 students.The school was authorised for the PYP in May 2003 and is scheduled for authorisation of the MYP in the school year 2007/2008.The school will be re-structured for the new school year to comprise of the following groupings: two pre-school classes for 4-5 year olds, PYP K-1, PYP 2-3, PYP 4-5, MYP 1-2, MYP 3 and MYP 4-5.The school is a state school with support from IKEA of Sweden for the teacher's professional development.The mission of the school embraces internationalism and the promotion of a caring learning environment.Älmhult lies in southern Sweden on the trans-national train route from Copenhagen to Stockholm.The local area is peaceful with a population of approximately 15,000.Attractive green areas, nearby lakes and the local golf course add to the atmosphere of the town.The provincial town of Växjö is easily reached by either road or rail.The position of Head of School will attract those who aspire to enter a senior level management position with knowledge of both the Primary and Middle Years Programmes and will allow for career development. Professional qualifications: A university degree Native competency in both written and spoken English A knowledge of Swedish would be an advantage but not essential Organised, active leader able to inspire the faculty Teaching experience and knowledge of the IBO's Primary and Middle Years Programmes Preferably some experience as a senior administrator in an international school Personal attributes: Strong interpersonal and leadership skills A sincere love of children Internationally-minded Ability to mentor the staff and foster their professional development Open-minded and principled Ability to relate well to both children and adults Energy, enthusiasm, and a passionate commitment to teaching and learning Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral English Expertise in handling a small school budget Skill in selecting and developing teachers within the school Articulating the vision of the school to students, staff and parents Teaching language: English
