As wind energy starts to compete directly with conventional power, wind turbines’ part of the energy mix is increasing. As a result, grid operators are imposing tougher demands on wind power plants, both due to the electrical performance and remote control. Designing wind power plants that are grid compliant is a challenge, but critical to the business case certainly of 'Vestas' Customer, project investors and the wider wind industry.

The Electrical Engineer's tasks are to support our customers in designing and building competitive and compliant wind power plants and track the changes on electrical grid requirements. This role will be focused on the Northern European markets with international opportunities, yet predominantly across the sales regions in Northern and Central Europe (NCE).
The team Power Plant Solutions NCE consists of an international team of Electrical Engineers. It is part of the Technical Sales Management department, supporting the organization in selling a few billion Euros' worth per year of wind power plants across Northern, Central & Eastern Europe, as well as parts of Africa.

Responsibilities
Your main responsibility as an Electrical Engineer in the Power Plant Solutions NCE team will be to effectively contribute to the technical value engineering of customer renewable energy projects from the electrical side. Furthermore, you will contribute to technical negotiations as an active member of the Sales team, composed of highly qualified experts in their respective fields.
With a focus on the electrical project configuration and compliance with requirements from customers and grid transmission operators, your responsibilities will include:
Ensure timely responses to customer enquiries
Take ownership for relevant parts of technical risk assessment & mitigation during value engineering / negotiation phase and therefore own the relevant technical annexes and contract schedules
Collect relevant electrical data and customer / site / grid requirements for project grid integration studies, request and reviewing studies for Engineering Pre-Design (EPD)
Taking accountability beyond the initial Sales phase, you technically support the construction and commissioning phases, prepare grid compliance test protocols (plans and procedures), and support during test execution



During the entire period, you will hold technical meetings with customers, contractors, grid operators & utilities and certification bodies to progress with the case. Further to this, you will also be the link between the local Sales organization and VPS (Vestas Power Solutions) for power plant related technical matters. This will require a good understanding of the market, and in particular of the local electrical and grid connection requirements as well as their expected evolution over time. In that context, you will:
Keep a continuous track of the local rules & legislation
Prepare internal interpretations or evaluations
Effectively engage with system operators and participate in working groups where required


Qualifications
University degree in Electrical Engineering/Power Systems
Solid knowledge of regulatory electrical requirements and grid codes
Good English skills, both in speech and writing
Technical background in from a similar industry or knowledge in any of the following fields is beneficial:
Power system analyses and studies
Power system simulation software, such as DIgSILENT/PSCAD/PSSE
HV and MV equipment and power systems
Knowledge of industrial automation and networks, PLC hardware, SCADA systems and communication interface

Additional information
Primary work location will be our office in Malmö.
Travelling activities will be expected of approximately 30 days per year (15% of the time).
