Production in China – Full-scale Scania production setup from zero

Scania has taken the strategic decision to set up a 3rd industrial hub in China - a project to develop and implement full-scale assembly operations has been initiated within Scania. The project is well on its way to starting the establishment and setting up of the local organization for Production and Logistics located in Rugao. To support the operations in Rugao,  Scania will have a Joint Venture agreement with a Chinese partner for Side memebrs to comply with the local policy for Truck production. We are now looking for our Managing Director with experience in Scania production or experience in ED coating and powder painting experience, preferably has had a senior position in a plant environment and knows how to lead a workshop! This is a unique possibility to work in a diverse, global, and cross-functional context where your personal experience and your perspective will contribute to Scania’s success in China. 

Your assignment

Your main task will be to ensure that Scania can reach the goals and aims we have for the JV on a high level, and to navigate the political hurdles that come with a JV collaboration.  

As Managing Director in Side members,  you are having an international experience that is flexible for work location, have very strong problem-solving skills and be able to work with Chinese counterparts to be successful and manage complex business political issues. Daily challenges will involve some political issues, but the mainstay of the work is to lead the day-to-day activities of the company. You are able to lead an organization to lift the supplier from the current level to the next higher level. You will take overall responsibility for personnel, quality, work environment, and economy. Our Managing Director is able to lead the work in an effective manner and in close cooperation with Scania Production China and Scania CV. Experience in ED coating and powder painting is preferable.

Your main responsibilities will span over a wide range of areas and your main activities among others will be: 


• Formulating the company´s strategy and supporting tactical initiatives together with JV partner
• Set up activities and targets, follow up and measurement of KPI
• Lead, steer, and develop the organization and its daily operations
• Ensure that the management team achieves the company's goals, including the development of the company's operations, processes, and operations
• Communicate and disseminate information within the organization and anchor decisions and solutions
• Be able to independently oversee the financial aspects of the company on behalf of Scania

Your profile

We are looking for a leader with extensive experience in personnel management, well-versed in general production and manufacturing processes within surface treatment and Powder Painting experience a plus.  We are looking for someone with international experience that is flexible for work location. You have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or the equivalent knowledge acquired some other way. Ideally, you have at least 5 years of work experience in strategic work and project management or senior manager responsibility. The mission requires strategic, operational as well as administrative skills. You have a growth mindset and a genuine interest in building relationships, solving problems, and pushing for positive change. We also believe you have analytic skills and good knowledge of project management and change management.

When it comes to communication you need to be fluent in Chinese and English. It is potentially a remote work location where 99% of all staff will be unable to communicate in English and the recruitment pool of candidates with good English in that location will be limited.  You are comfortable presenting to peers and senior management. You will work in a fast-paced environment with changing demands where you are highly capable of setting priorities with strong project management skills.

Your location

This position includes an Expatriate Period of 2 years in China from 2024. The estimated start will be Mid-2023 in Sweden.
