We are now looking for a student to take on the assignment (Fluid Dynamic Lab testing using a steady state heat transfer rig)

The assignment:

The scope of the present Diploma Thesis is to use an existing test rig for investigating the heat transfer inside additively manufactured test objects with varying internal geometries. The test object will be insulated and heated up by a heat foil. Thereafter, the internal geometry is subjected to a flow at constant temperature and mass flow. As steady state is reached, the energy balance is used for calculating the internal heat transfer coefficient. During the thesis the student will acquire improved skills in dimensional analysis, data acquisition and mass flow/pressure/temperature measurements. Also basic knowledge in additive manufacturing will be obtained as a part of the work.

The work will start October 2020 and will be conducted in the fluid dynamic laboratory at the Siemens Energy site in Finspång, Sweden for a period between 6 to 8 months depending on the student availability and will be agreed under the interview.
* Literature review
* Test rig preparation for testing
* Perform testing
* Analysis of test results
* Apply changes on the test rig, test procedure or analysis to improve the results
* Final report/presentation writing

Previous studies were accepted for publication in the Journal of Turbomachinery and/or at ASME Turbo Expo (TURBO-14-1171, GT2014-25619, GT2015-42475, GT2017-64143, GT2018-75019).
 

Your Profile: 

The goal of each of our Diploma Thesis’ is to create a work of publication quality. Therefore, our demands on the student are high and he/she must be familiar with:
* gas fluid dynamics
* dimensional similarity
* numerical methods and Matlab.
* you must also be very driven, ambitious and prepared to work hard.
* good skills in English language are required both in speech and writing.
