SKF Group MPD (Manufacturing and Process Development), belonging of more than 200 employees of various nationalities, has a responsibility for developing new manufacturing processes and equipment for ultimate use in SKF factories distributed worldwide. Accordingly MPD endeavours to keep informed on all new technology developments and how they can be applied to improve production efficiency, quality and performance of SKF products.

Mechanical Designer


We are seeking a Mechanical Designer who can contribute to the development and visualizing of new machine concepts within the Hard Machining area. Special focus on Grinding, Hard turning and Superfinishing of hardened steel. The concepts can vary from new subsystems in existing machines or complete manufacturing system. The focus is often system with a high degree of automation and the newest technology. You should be able to do cost calculation of the designs and be part of the testing of new concepts / prototypes.The person should be highly motivated to work with the technology development both in an R&D and a factory environment in cooperation with different SKF specialists.


Key responsibilities
• Carry out technical development for new functions and machine concepts including 3D models, drawings and production documents
• Do cost calculation of designs
• Participating in testing of new concepts/prototypes
• To take an active role in innovation & creativity in line with overall strategy
• To be updated on trends related to manufacturing systems
• Develop a good working cooperation network within Hard Machining and key actors.


Requirements
• Extensive and senior level experience of machine development with 3D software, preferably Creo Parametric
• Solid experience in the industrial application of Hard Machining processes.
• Experience from manufacturing environment and machine tool knowledge
• Experience with visualization/animation software is a plus
• Good knowledge of different material and their behaviors in machines
• Good understanding of the general demands for a high-volume production machine
• Knowledge of CE and machine safety requirements related to machine design


Personal profile
• A self-motivated, proactive team worker with good communication skills.
• Good ability to speak and write in English.
• Willingness to occasionally travel.

Additional information
The location for this position is Gothenburg, Sweden.
The position holder will report to the Department Manager of Machine and Machining.
