The European branch is a vital part of the whole organization - the company endeavors to meet customer needs and deliver services quickly and efficiently. For this they have the European Logistics Center based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, which fulfils over 2000 orders a day. The European Strategic headquarters are based in two locations - Company Business Solution's are in London, the UK, and the Corporate Strategy Centre is based at the Operational headquarters in Amstelveen, the Netherlands, which also includes the Company Consumer Team and the European Logistics Centre.
Main Tasks:
Within the European Operations / IT Infrastructure Department in the IT Business Unit, we are looking for a Network Engineer due to the expanding nature of our business. This person is responsible for providing all aspects of 3rd line operational support for IP network and IP-based telephony systems.
Key Tasks:
Participate in the development of standards for all IP networks. Write operational procedures for 2nd and 3rd line support of IP networks. Perform release management (patching, updating, and upgrading) for IP networks. Ensure the stability of the IP networks. Participate in activities to improve and guarantee performance of IP networks. Execute activities associated with continuous service improvements. Perform acceptance testing for new implementations of IP networks. Participate in the retirement of obsolete networking components and their eventual replacement by next generation components. Participate in the automation of network management tasks.Perform regular preventive maintenance (software & firmware) on IP network components. Train OCC (front office) staff and work to handover basic tasks to the Service Desk or OCC. Cooperate and communicate effectively with other teams internal and external to the Infrastructure division. Work with third party partners, such as IBM and Cisco. Work with Design & Planning on new implementations.
Key Relationships: Internal - Systems, Storage, Quality Control, Operations Control Center, DBA, other Application Support teams
External - IBM, Cisco, T-Systems
Decision Making Authority: Decisions related to operational tasks of the Systems Group.May authorize minor expenses related to abnormal working times due to operational issues. For example, costs for meals and transportation (taxi) where required to support staff in exceptional circumstances.
Performance Measures: Outages in production environments. Adherence to standards and procedures. Scheduled maintenance activities executed successfully and error-free
Systems kept up to date and under support. New implementations are integrated successfully into operations.
Requirements:
Fluent English, both written and spoken. Strong inter-personal and communication skills; capable of writing purchase justifications, training users in complex topics, making presentations to an internal audience, and interacting positively with upper management. Independent problem solving; self-direction. Is comfortable with most aspects of network management; for example, maintaining configuration files, maintaining and developing firewall rules and configurations, configuration of switching devices, upgrading network operating systems.
