PhD student in modeling catalytic reactors

Arbetsbeskrivning

The Chemical Reaction Engineering group seeks a PhD student to work and be trained in the area of heterogeneous catalysis. The planned PhD research project will focus on the development of techniques to model heterogeneous catalytic reactors. The study will likely be based on lean NOx reduction catalysis for emission control. Generally the goal of the research project is the improvement of methods and use of experimental results for the development of models of heterogeneous catalytic reactions. An example of a particular focus of the research could be the use of isotope transient experiments combined with spectroscopy to gain insight into the relevant intermediate surface species on the catalyst. An additional goal would be the use of this information which is often qualitative in nature, in the development of quantitative kinetic models. The project is funded by the Swedish Research Council. Description of the position The position is limited to maximum five years and corresponds to full-time research studies during four years. In addition, teaching in the undergraduate or masters curriculi at Chalmers could be included corresponding to one year, teaching work distributed over the whole time of the position. The positions are placed at the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Chalmers University of Technology. The position is suitable for a highly motivated individual with a Master of Science degree in the areas of Chemical Engineering or Chemical Engineering with Physics. As a PhD student you will carry out research, study PhD courses and participate in undergraduate education - in Swedish and English. Good presentation skills and an ability to collaborate with others are important qualifications for a PhD student.
