PhD student position

Arbetsbeskrivning

PhD student position in modeling methodology of exhaust clean-up systems Chalmers has a long and well reputed tradition in Chemical Engineering. A recent evaluation of chemical engineering in Sweden stated that the research in chemical engineering at Chalmers is outstanding. This research is based upon mechanistic modeling, carefully planned experiments, and generic applications. We are collaborating with several partners in academia, industry and research institutes. In the modeling of catalytic kinetics and transport phenomena, the research group of Chemical Reaction Engineering holds a world leading position. We are now expanding on our previous research to incorporate modeling of detailed kinetics and transport phenomena in full scale systems in close collaboration with the automotive industry. The Chemical Reaction Engineering group is now recruiting a PhD student to work within a research project that will focus on the development of methodologies used for modeling of full scale catalytic converters. The study will be conducted in close collaboration with Scania CV AB and Johnson Matthey AB. Different topics within the project include e.g. model-based design of experiments, improved numerical methods for parameter estimation as well as criteria for model validation. The project is funded by the Swedish Energy Agency (Energimyndigheten) and the industrial partners. The position is limited to maximum five years and corresponds to full-time research studies during four years. In addition, teaching in the undergraduate or masters programs at Chalmers could be included corresponding to one year over the entire duration. The research will be performed at the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Chalmers University of Technology, except for the experiments, which will be conducted at the companies. The position is suitable for a highly motivated individual with a Master of Science degree in the areas of Chemical Engineering or Chemical Engineering with Engineering Physics. Interest in modeling and numerical problems is important. As a PhD student you will carry out research, study PhD courses and participate in undergraduate education. Good skills in English, good presentation skills as well as ability to collaborate with others are important qualifications for a PhD student.
