Keywords: Piping, Fatigue, FE-analysis Background Within the discipline of mechanical engineering, a basic and fundamental requirement in the Nuclear Power Plant industry is to secure structural- and pressure integrity for pressure vessels and piping. In Sweden, the general design criteria?s is regulated in Swedish national laws and in detail in the code Boiler and Pressure Vessel code ASME III. The code sets boundaries for the design. A part of the verification is to perform fatigue analyses that show that there is a sufficient margin against cracking. Lately, some efforts have been made at Ringhals Nuclear Power Plant to investigate the risk for fatigue phenomena in junctions between pipes where water of different temperatures are mixed. Task Description Analyses for determination of the fluctuating temperature distribution is ongoing work within fluid mechanics. The focus of this project would be to investigate the fatigue effect in the piping wall, considering fluid velocities, heat transfer coefficients, temperature differences, temperature increase ramp time etc. The objectives of the work are to: - Search existing literature, articles and studies of this phenomena - Investigate fatigue requirements within the Nuclear Piping Code ASME III. - Perform analyses on a piping wall exposed to the fluctuating temperature in a mixed zone.
