Research and Development within DLF Beet Seed is currently undergoing a major expansion phase and we are now looking for another Plant breeder to join our great team of specialists. If you want to develop and make a difference in a strong international Group, please continue reading.
The position
The job purpose of this position is to contribute to the competitiveness of the DLF beet seed breeding portfolio. It is a diverse position, theoretical but also hands-on, where you need to have a flexible personality and a willingness to perform routine work as well as having the competence and energy to drive and become responsible for a breeding program aiming at bringing improved germplasm to the market. It is crucial to have knowledge and experience in plant breeding or genetics and to have the ability to develop and implement latest breeding methods in a commercial breeding program. The position is located in Landskrona, but you will be working in a global setting. You report to Head of Beet Seed Breeding and Research in Landskrona.
Tasks
· Develop best practices for sugar beet breeding and drive new products to the market based on conventional breeding and backcrossing programs.
· Be responsible for planning of budget and volumes for breeding programs and for planning field and greenhouse activities.
· Manage projects aiming at improvements and increased efficiency in trait introduction processes.
· Drive development of tilling populations, evaluation and trait introduction in DLF Beet Seed germplasm.
· Interact with customers, research institutes, universities etc. in the field of plant breeding to share knowledge and ensure implementation of new technologies.
Your profile
You have a Master/PhD in Agronomics and/or Biology plus good understanding of plants, genetics and of the application of marker technology in breeding. You also have excellent project management skills and experience in handling and manipulating large sets of data. You communicate fluently, verbally and written, in English and it is an advantage if you also know some Swedish, German or French.
As a person you are structured, self-propelled and like to collaborate with colleges and different stakeholders internally and externally. We work in a global market and therefore team working skills are crucial as well as being pedagogic when giving guidance to others. You have capacity to innovate in a focused and product-oriented manner and an interest in and awareness of the market context of a commercial seed business. You are also able to handle logistical challenges, sometimes under time pressure. The position requires some travelling, so you need to be willing to travel internationally and nationally.
