Postdoc Clinical Lipidomics and Bioinformatics

We offer a temporary position for two years, starting February 1st 2010. The arena AstraZeneca is one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies with a strong cardiovascular portfolio.The cardiovascular research is mainly focused on diabetes/obesity, atherosclerosis, thrombosis, and atrial fibrillation.Together with several European academic groups and pharmaceutical companies AstraZeneca is taking part in the IMI-SUMMIT collaboration.The central goal of the 5-years project is to identify surrogate markers for micro- and macrovascular complications in diabetes.Markers to be used as important tools to monitor the effect of interventions but also to aid in the identification of patients at high risk of complications. The role You will be a key person in the biomarker discovery project where the tasks will include retrieving, analysing and visualising data from external sources (mainly from lipidomics platforms).You will exercise expert knowledge in lipid biology and work together with experienced scientists in the areas of lipid profiling and bioinformatics.You will collaborate with partners in IMI-SUMMIT in order to provide them with relevant and value-added information in an efficient way.You will be based at AstraZeneca R&D in Mölndal at the Bioscience department, but occasionally also at the University of Dundee. Experiences/requirements * PhD in biology or biochemistry, preferably in lipid biology in the context of diabetes and/or atherosclerosis.* Knowledge and understanding of lipid analysis by mass spectrometry.* Highly experienced in analysing large datasets (e.g.omics data) and basic statistics.* Understanding of bioinformatics tools, such as pathway analysis.* Effective working, both independently and within a team environment.* Self motivated with excellent work ethics, demonstrated creativity and professionalism.* Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.* Scientific mindset and experience of working in a scientific environment.Alt.
