Postdoc in Fabrication of graphene THz detectors

Postdoc in Fabrication of graphene THz detectors

We seek a highly motivated, self-propelling, and skilled Postdoc to take part in experimental research at Quantum Device Physics Laboratory (QDP) of the Department of Microtechnology and Nanoscience – MC2, Chalmers University of Technology.

Information about the division
The research of  QDP extends over a variety of topics  of condensed matter physics using nano fabricated devices consisting of emerging 2D materials and van der Waals heterostructures, topological Dirac and Weyl materials, semiconductors, oxide heterostructures, nanomagnets, and superconductors. We combine the best of different materials to develop new concepts in device physics and applications in quantum metrology, topological quantum technology, thermoelectric, quantum theory, radio astronomy, medical instrumentation, and spintronics.

Major responsibilities
The overall workflow will consist of fabrication of graphene THz detectors from either exfoliated- or CVD graphene using the clean-room environment instrumentation. Different material characterization methods are supposed to be used, like Raman-, Atomic-Force-, and Scanning-Electron Microscopies. Preliminary radiation-detection effectiveness will be done at 94 GHz.

The duties will include:

i) obtaining graphene (exfoliation, exfoliation + encapsulation, CVD growth, transfer of graphene)
ii) material characterization (Raman, SEM, AFM)
iii) device patterning, using e-beam, laser-beam, and ordinary photo-lithographies.
iv) preliminary measurements at 94 GHz.
v) analysis of data and writing reports/articles

You are expected to learn and master high-tech equipment both in the clean room and measurement lab. At least one published paper is expected from the candidate during the first year. The candidate is also expected to supervise short-term (1-2 months) master-students' projects or/and their thesis work (6 months).

Position summary
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of two years (1+1).

To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must have a doctoral degree in Physics or Engineering Physics. You should be fluent in English, have good collaborative skills and ability to communicate your results in writing and presentations.

We expect you to stay motivated and efficient despite setbacks and disappointments while continuing to work until non-trivial results have been achieved.

Chalmers continuously strives to be an attractive employer. Equality and diversity are substantial foundations in all activities at Chalmers.
