Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences Department of Ecology, Uppsala Postdoctoral position Species diversity and occurrence patterns in managed boreal forest landscapes SLU develops the understanding and sustainable use of biological natural resources.This is achieved through research, teaching, environmental monitoring and assessment and information extension.SLU has 3000 employees, 4200 undergraduate and postgraduate students.Main campuses are located at Alnarp, Skara, Uppsala and Umeå.www.slu.se A post doctoral position is available at SLU Uppsala on species occurrence patterns in forest landscapes.It is fully financed (including salary and benefits) for a period of two years. Work description:The objective of the research is to predict diversity and species occurrence patterns, especially of saproxylic beetles.Statistical models will be constructed based on large data sets on beetles and dead wood at three spatial scales: forest landscapes, forest stands and individual dead wood objects, from central Sweden.It may be possible to also predict future patterns using simulation models.The post doc will be part of a research group at the department working with the effects of forestry on biodiversity. Qualifications: The successful candidate should hold a PhD in Ecology (or equivalent) with a strong background in various methods of statistical analysis and a track-record in scientific publication.Knowledge about insects and nature conservation in forests is an advantage, but not a prerequisite. The application should include: (1) a summary of previous achievements (max.1 page), (2) a description (max.1 page) on how the research task is perceived, (3) PhD thesis, (4) curriculum vitae and (5) two reference persons.
