Umeå University - with its 33,000 students and over 4,000 employees - is an organisation in constant change and development.Umeå University conducts groundbreaking research within several areas - several in which we are among the best in the world - within others regarded as the leaders in Sweden.We are one of Sweden's largest providers of education and offer a broad and attractive range of courses and programmes.Our campus constitutes an inspiring environment for everyone that studies and works here.We wish to co-operate with companies and organisations throughout the Umeå region and all over the world.Postdoctoral position (2 years) in Theoretical Physics The Department of Physics at Umeå University has a staff of approximately 90 persons; 13 professors, 28 with a PhD degree, roughly 35 PhD students, a technical/administrative staff of about ten and some temporarily employed positions such as post docs.The department pursues highly competitive experimental and theoretical research in areas such as optical physics, condensed matter physics, plasma and space physics, and theoretical physics.We are now looking for an exceptional postdoctoral candidate to work in the field of theoretical physics.This is a full-time position over a period of two years.The position is planned to be filled by April 2010.The successful candidate is expected to do theoretical and/or numerical studies of strong electromagnetic fields, such as those generated by next-generation lasers, and their interactions with matter.Development of numerical codes can be included within this project and, if so, it is expected that most of the ensuing research will be carried out on available super-computing facilities.The candidates must therefore have a strong record in theoretical physics.To qualify for the position, the applicant should have a PhD degree in Theoretical Physics or equivalent, preferably not more than 3 years old.The application should include a description of past research accomplishments, a curriculum vitae, transcripts of degree certificates, a publication list and reprints/copies of published work according to this list and names of references.The application can be submitted either electronically (MS Word or PDF format) or in hard-copy form (two copies).Applications will be discarded or, if the applicant so wishes, returned two years after the position has been filled.Documents sent electronically should be in MS Word or PDF format.We look forward to receiving your application!
