Postdoctoral position for modeling magnetic fields

Postdoctoral position for modeling magnetic fields

Arbetsbeskrivning

Information about the project and the division
Applications are invited for a 1-year postdoctoral position on the study of molecular line polarisation around stars and galactic nuclei. The project makes use of the state-of-the-art radiative transfer code PORTAL and will include the development of new modules for different physical conditions. The successful applicant will be expected to lead the work in close collaboration with several members of both the stellar and extra-galactic research teams.

As postdoc you will be part of the division of Astronomy and Plasma Physics (AoP). The division is situated at the main Johanneberg Campus and at the Onsala Space Observatory (OSO), which is the Swedish national facility for Radio Astronomy. The observatory operates telescopes in Sweden, shares in the APEX telescope in Chile, and hosts the Nordic ALMA Regional Center (ARC). The research at the division covers a wide range of topics, including evolved stars, interstellar medium, astrochemistry, star and planet formation, as well as observational cosmology, galaxy formation and evolution and galaxy clusters.

Major responsibilities
Your major responsibility as postdoc is to perform your own research in a research group. The position also includes opportunities for small fractions of time teaching on undergraduate and master's levels as well as supervising master's and/or PhD students. Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia and with society at large. The position is meritorious for future research duties within academia as well as industry/the public sector.

Position summary
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of one year.

Qualifications
To qualify for this postdoc fellowship position, you must have a Ph.D. in a relevant field, for example astronomy, astrophysics or similar.  You should also have the demonstrated ability to perform state of the art polarisation radiative transfer modeling. The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English.
