Product Design Director

One key challenge ahead is lifting our products and all design aspects to even higher levels. To strengthen the team further, we are looking for a seasoned design leader who knows what it takes to succeed as a designer, can drive excellence, and challenge the status quo.

The Product Design Director will lead the Product design community (+10 talented product designers and user researchers) and ensure our product meets and exceeds our customers' needs. Together with the team, you will conduct rigorous user research, champion the craft, and develop our design systems and tools to continuously strengthen our products, delivering a distinct and differentiating experience that sets us apart from the competition.


What will you do

- Work closely with the CPO and senior leadership to create the strategic vision of the product

- Be part of the product and tech leadership

- Manage, develop and coach our design domain leaders and support them in their professional growth

- Drive excellence by defining best practices and standards, being a source of inspiration through showing by doing

- Work closely with the designers to ensure a deep understanding of user needs and that their design solutions fit into a consistent product experience

- Define, lead and oversee the design process across the entire product lifecycle from product discovery to implementation

- Quickly interpret customer and business needs and turn them into compelling experiences that deliver on set business objectives

- Ensure we continuously ship high-quality experiences in line with our design principles

- Collaborate closely with Brand / Marketing to ensure a consistent experience across all Storytels channels

- Ensure we scale our design efforts through our design system and operational excellence

- Be responsible for the design organization's health and performance by building a culture of design excellence


Who you are

- Experience as Director/Head of Design, managing managers in a tech organization

- Experience building, leading, and developing strategic design organizations, including a proven track record in mentoring and developing design leaders

- You are an inspirational leader with a strong portfolio of products you successfully shipped, as well as products your team has developed

- You can see the big picture while having an eye for the minor details, such as micro-interactions and color contrasts

- You can give effective direction and feedback to designers on the team

- You are willing to get hands-on, partnering closely with other designers and engineering teams

- Proficiency in Figma and other relevant design tools

- Excellent English language and communication skills
