Professor/Full professor in Design of Human-Technology Systems

The Department of Industrial and Materials Science now has an open position as Professor or Full professor, where your will lead and shape the division's future research in the area of Human-Technology Systems, and contribute to making every design meaningful.

Information about the Department and the division
The Department of Industrial and Materials Science empowers people with knowledge and technical solutions for future industry, in a sustainable society. Through excellent research, innovation, and education, we create future industrial value chains. The main competencies at the department of Industrial and Materials Science are found in the areas of: Human-Technology Interaction | Form and Function | Modeling and Simulation | Product Development | Material | Production and in the interaction between these areas. The research develops the industrial process, from need to finished product while creating added value. To combine skills throughout the whole chain distinguishes the department both nationally and internationally. Here we gather internationally prominent researchers, in dynamic and outstanding research environments, as well as in national and international research networks.

You will be part of Division Design & Human Factors, one of six divisions at the department. The research and teaching at Division Design & Human Factors aim to contribute to a more human-centred development of technology. More specifically, the division seeks to develop further knowledge on the relationship between people and technology (in a broad sense); knowledge that can be used for the design of technical products and systems and that contributes to social and ecological sustainability.

The knowledge is disseminated through educating future designers and engineers and through collaboration with industry as well as public organisations. The vision is that one day, all products, services and workplaces will be designed to enable users to live and work in a meaningful and sustainable way.

Our current research is clustered around four themes: Sustainable Urban Transport; Circularity and Sustainable Product Use; Safe and Efficient Human-Machine Systems; and Healthy Work Systems and Ergonomics. The research is interdisciplinary with a basis is design theory, ergonomics/human factors, behavioural science, and theories on complex socio-technical systems.

Major responsibilities
You will contribute to the division's vision by supporting ongoing research as well as lead and shape the division's future research in the area of Human-Technology Systems. This includes a responsible use(r)-centred development of technology in domains characterized by complex relationships between people and technology, such as automation, AI and/or medical technology.

Since your research as well as that of Ph.D. students is primarily funded by external sources, one important responsibility is to continuously apply for and secure external research funding, most often in collaboration with other academic partners, and/or with industry as well as public organisations.

Disseminating your research results through different information channels, including recognised academic fora as well as reaching out to the general public, is another important task.

Other main responsibilities are to provide support to colleagues, mentor junior researchers, supervise Ph.D. candidates and teach at bachelor and master levels. You will contribute to developing existing courses, design new courses, and try out novel teaching strategies.

You are expected to be able to show how your research has impact and benefited the world outside academia.

On-site presence at the university is mandatory.
