The role:

The Project Information Manager (PIM) provides consultative advice to GMD users of the system to ensure that the information required by the business (activities, cost and value) is available for decision making at the project and portfolio level. This role is responsible for providing advanced project management systems expertise in the drug development project planning process and the Opal tool set (Planisware and reporting). The role is also responsible for coaching and training the GMD Global Project Managers, GMD Functional Project Managers and GMD-led project teams in program and project management techniques available within the Opal tool set to facilitate the delivery of project objectives.



Major Duties and Responsibilities:

-Identification of process/tool issues and recommended solutions

-Development and management of Opal Business Processes, e.g.:

• Monthly Reference Line Process
• Project Baselining
• Portfolio and Business Update Review Process
-System Administration across all 3 Science Units, e.g.:

• Managing user access
• Data Model management (attributes, data structures)
• Help Desk, business support
-Ad Hoc Opal consultancy on how to complete a task within the Opal system or through an Opal process related to their project

-Management and business ownership of the data output tools in the Opal environment

-Business requirement development of changes required to the system based on organizational or continuous improvement efforts, e.g.:

• RBS changes
• Activity template changes
• Algorithm changes
-Coordination and implementation of business changes in the Opal system

-Coordination of Data Quality Initiatives across the Science Units

-Opal Project, Timecard, Interface and Business Process training management

Interfaces to other systems needed to integrate key information used by the business for project management, business analysis and reporting



The GMD Operations Project Information Management team also has responsibility for coordination of development & management of the Opal system and processes across the Science Units (ensuring integration and coordination of IMED and MedImmune requirements with their Opal Offices) to ensure maximum efficiency and simplification while delivering the business critical portfolio, project and/or functional information required for Business Decisions. This includes:

• Business requirements gathering across the Science Units – attributes, data structures, reports
• Coordination of template and algorithm changes needed by the Science Units
• Evaluation and coordination of Interfaces including recommendations when Interfaces may need updating, elimination, etc.
• Coordination of Data Quality Initiatives across the Science Units
• Management and development of the data output tools in the Opal environment including the Data Warehouse


Lastly, the GMD Operations Project Information Management team has responsibility for GMD Project and GMD Function support to ensure the Opal Portfolio and Project information delivers the Business Critical portfolio and project management information required for Business Decisions in the GMD. This effort also includes:

• Opal Project, Timecard, Interface and Business Process training
• Capability development and training required by GMD Global Project Managers and GMD Functional Project Managers when working in the Opal system or with an Opal Process. This will include communicating and coordinating best practices across the 3 Science Units
• Ad Hoc Opal consultancy when GMD Global Project Managers and GMD Functional Project Managers need advice on how to complete a task within the Opal system or through an Opal process related to their project


Education:

• BA/BS in science or engineering discipline or equivalent technical work experience is required
• Project Management Certification (e.g. PMP) is desirable
• Experience from AstraZeneca is desirable


Experience:

System software/Project Management

• Knowledge of project management as a discipline including the ability to create, coordinate, and maintain an integrated product plan and to control or respond to changes in strategy and scope.
• Expertise in use of enterprise-wide pharmaceutical project management software solutions, including skills in critical path analysis. MS Project and/or Planisware experience is required in a Pharmaceutical/Biotech environment.
• Understanding financial and resource planning systems and processes and ability to coordinate project-level budget/resource estimates and manage actuals vs. plan.
• Experience with reporting software such as Business Objects and Spotfire a plus.


Other Experience/Abilities

• Must be professional, dedicated and detail-orientated.
• Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, analytical, and computer skills.
• Strong organizational skills required, including good time management skills.
• Highly organized and able to work independently on multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
