Radioactive Waste Management Technician

Context:
The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), situated in Grenoble, France, is an international research facility for fundamental research using neutrons. It is Europe's leading centre for neutron research and operates a nuclear reactor (HRF), providing the brightest neutron source in the world.
Come and join our team in the Radioactive Waste Management and Decontamination group (GTDA), comprising a Head of Group, an engineer and eventually five technicians, which forms part of the ILL's Health Physics, Safety and Environment Service (SRSE).

Your tasks:
As a technician, you will play a key role in the management of radioactive waste, as well as during work operations performed in radioactive environments at the ILL.
This post is primarily related to the management radioactive waste (75%). Here you will have the following main duties:
- Separating and managing waste (dismantling, cutting, drying, etc.), following the relevant procedures
- Conditioning waste in the appropriate packaging (VLLW, LLW, ILW)
- Completing documentation for production of radioactive waste packages
- Performing gamma spectrometry measurements on radioactive waste packages
- Using x-rays to check the contents of drums containing waste suitable for incineration
- Transporting radioactive waste packages (using a forklift truck and mobile crane)
- Keeping inventories for waste storage areas up to date
- Loading radioactive waste packages into containers for transport.

In the context of work operations in radioactive environments, your duties (25%) will include:
- Assisting in the production of medical radioisotopes (acceptance and inspection of empty casks, decontamination following removal from the hot cell, loading of active casks, etc.)
- Carrying out preparation and clean-up operations for work areas in radiation protection zones (installing containment tents, air monitors and breathing air supply units, etc.)
- Decontaminating areas, equipment and tools (using pressure washers, cleaning cloths, etc.)
- Supporting work operations in radiation protection zones (supplying consumables, assisting those working in radioactive environments to put on and take off protective clothing, etc.)
- Managing "active" clothing (through the conditioning, inspection, shipping and acceptance stages)
- Changing ventilation filters, gloves in glove boxes, etc.
- Manage equipment and stocks of consumables (contracts for maintenance, suppliers and orders).

Your profile:
- You have a relevant Level 2 qualification (e.g. NVQ level 2, BTEC, GCSE or equivalent) or Level 3 qualification (A level, NVQ level 3 or equivalent) as a technician specialising in operations on nuclear installations, radioactive waste management and work and decontamination operations in radioactive environments.
- Experience in a radioactive environment is required.
- You must be able to demonstrate strict application of procedures and you must have a meticulous approach to your work.

- Fluency in French essential.
