Arbetsbeskrivning

R&D Engineer - Grade Development
Sandvik Coromant is a frontrunner in metal cutting and our industry leading position is based on decades of experience, core technical knowledge and passionate people. As innovators and change makers, we always push boundaries and test limits – rethinking, redefining and redesigning to figure out what’s possible to achieve. We consider R&D as the heart and soul of our business and we’re proud of our large, and constantly increasing, product portfolio.

The R&D Grades – Cutting Technology Department in Västberga, Stockholm, is responsible for developing new cutting tool materials. Our team is part of the R&D function for Materials and Process - an agile and curious crew that stays up to date regarding customer needs and requirements, to always be one step ahead and exceed expectations. We’re now looking for an R&D Engineer to engage in one of our core grade areas within milling and turning grade development. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to influence and develop together with world-leading experts in a truly competitive and global environment. Your days are both varied and exciting, and you never know where technology and the power of fulfilling customer needs may take you. So, join us and shape the future of manufacturing!

Your job
In this position, you develop our next generation of outstanding cutting tool materials, and with your application knowledge and curiousness in applying digital solutions, you’re constantly improving our understanding of customer demands. You analyze worn cutting tools and the feedback we get from our customers to improve our products continually. You translate and simplify complex matters into actions to ensure that the R&D departments are developing appropriate solutions. An essential responsibility of yours is to develop testing strategies for the grade area based on technical customer specifications of demands. You’re comfortable working in laboratory environments as well as in our tools’ natural habitat - at our customers’ sites. There, you investigate what the most important material characteristics are to influence the development of innovative cutting tool materials.

You report to the Manager of R&D Grades – Cutting Technology, and some travel is included in your job.

Your profile
We’re looking for someone with a master’s or Ph.D., preferably in Materials or Mechanical Engineering. Experience from working with material research or product development combined with customer interaction is advantageous. Practical or theoretical understanding of metal cutting is also valuable in this position, as is experience in writing reports and analyzing results of projects and tests and presenting these. As we operate in a truly global environment, you’re fluent in English, while knowledge in Swedish is advantageous.

We’re sincerely interested in your personality. You’re curious, systematic, and patient, and we appreciate that you know what is good enough, yet eager to keep activities moving forward to ensure on-time delivery. You combine a networking mindset with technical skills, and you enjoy a setting where sharing knowledge and supporting your team members are crucial. Your personal drive and 360 approach to solving problems also come in very handy. Finally, with your transparent and communicative way of working, you set the foundation for good collaborations with co-workers and customers.

At Sandvik Coromant, we believe that diversity of experience, perspective and background leads to a better environment for our employees, our business and our customers. We’re looking forward to meeting you!
