R&D Modelling and Simulation Expert

As part of this investment, NKT has established a Technology Consulting center in Västerås through acquisition of parts of ABB’s Swedish Corporate Research Center. From the site in Västerås, technical experts and scientists have worked with industries worldwide in cross-disciplinary R&D projects and technical investigations, for more than one hundred years.
As R&D Modelling and Simulation Expert you will be part of the Applied Mechanics team in the Technology Consulting center in Västerås.
In this role you will among other things

Provide technical support to NKT and to other industries worldwide in overcoming complex mechanical challenges across different products and in all stages of the product development cycle.

Our portfolio covers a wide range of high and medium voltage cutting edge products. The team core competence spans different fields in applied mechanics, including structural dynamics, fatigue and fracture mechanics and materials constitutive modelling, with emphasis on the mechanics of high-voltage cables. Through the range of different R&D projects and consulting assignments, there will be great opportunities to build a global network of technical partners and business units.
As R&D Modeling and Simulation Experts your main tasks will be to:
Perform finite element analysis for different cutting-edge product applications for solving complex problems that arise in various areas of applied mechanics such as fatigue and fracture mechanics, materials constitutive modelling and structural dynamics. Another important task is to understand our internal and external customer needs as well as their business drivers and implement creative solutions that requires highly advanced mechanical modelling competence.
Together with your colleagues, you will lead and conduct various type of consulting and R&D projects end-to-end, from initial client discussion to execution and reporting. You will contribute with your modelling and simulation expertise to the future development of world class high and medium voltage products.
About you
You have a technical Ph.D. or a master’s degree with three years’ experience in either fatigue and fracture mechanics, constitutive modeling or structural dynamics modeling. Specifically, you have knowledge of the finite element method and numerical modeling or optimization.
Furthermore, you have:
Excellent skills and extensive experiences with commercial finite element analysis software, i.e. ANSYS, ABAQUS, COMSOL.
Knowledge and experience on the mechanics of high-voltage cables are merit.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, including the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers with different background.
It is also advantageous if you have experience building close customer relations and are familiar with programming of software applications.

You enjoy working independently as much as in multi-disciplinary team. Beyond the formal requirements, you will approach problem in an analytical manner – systematically identifying our customers’ needs – and creatively finding potential solutions.
