SIPRI’s Peace and Development Cluster is hiring a Research Assistant and Cluster coordiantor.

The position
SIPRI’s Peace and Development research cluster explores the conditions conducive to sustainable development and peace.  Our research examines the role that actors, processes, and institutions play in promoting sustainable peace from local to global level.

The purpose of this position is to coordinate the Peace and Development (PD) research cluster and to provide support to research in the area of peace and development.

Tasks and responsibilities
The primary responsibility of the PD cluster coordinator is, as directed by the Director of Studies, to: 


• Support all aspects related to the delivery of research in the Peace and Development area of study;
• Facilitate communication within the area of study, with other areas of study, operations, outreach, and the senior management of the Institute;
• Contribute to a pleasant and stimulating intellectual and social work environment in the cluster and the Institute as a whole.

The primary responsibility of the Research Assistant is to provide high quality research assistance on topics related to peace and development, including but not limited to:


• Conducting literature reviews;
• Data work and statistical analysis under supervision;
• Background analysis on select topics;
• Proposal development;
• Contributing to a pleasant and stimulating intellectual and social work environment.

Requirements
The Research assistant and Cluster coordinator should be highly organized, flexible, and demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills. Methodological and analytical rigour, thoroughness and attention to detail are also important qualities for the post.

The post holder should have


• familiarity with SIPRI's research within the peace and development area.
• Proven ability to work and deliver in small teams under pressure.
• A university degree or degrees, in disciplines and topics relevant to this post.
• 2-3 years experience within a think tank or research institute in the peace or development field.

Contract period
The contract period will initially last for two years with the possibility of extension. The post is full-time. The post requires that the candidate becomes a resident in Stockholm, Sweden, when employment starts. The salary package will be negotiated individually.
