Job description
Background:
Melt&Marble’s mission is to enable the transition towards a more sustainable food system. We do this by using precision fermentation to develop the best and tastiest fats for plant-based foods. By engineering microbial metabolism, we can brew animal-free fats that mimic the structures and sensory properties of animal fats. The result: tastier foods, for people and the planet.

Position summary:
We are looking for a motivated scientist with a solid experience in analytical chemistry to work on analysis of Melt&Marble’s yeast strains for production of lipids and other metabolites. You will be working alongside our strain/process engineering and application development teams, and will be key in helping them understand the results of different engineering efforts.
Our ideal candidate should have a strong track record working with and developing different analytical methods, strong organizational skills, and a passion for using science & technology to solve tough challenges. The candidate should also be comfortable working in the dynamic environment of a start-up company, troubleshooting challenging projects, and meeting tight deadlines.
Occasionally, some activities may require working outside of standard working hours. The position might require travel within Sweden and abroad.


Activities:
Extraction of lipids and other metabolites from different biological samples
Analysis of samples for different lipid compounds and other metabolites- including sample preparation, operation of analytical instruments (e.g. GC-MS,/FID, HPLC, etc.), and data analysis/interpretation
Establishing standards and protocols for sample analysis, and developing new methods
Conducting quality analysis of Melt&Marble's fats & oils
Maintaining detailed records of experiments and results in Melt&Marble’s data management system
Creating summary reports of data for the strain engineering, bioprocessing, and application development teams



Job requirements
Required qualifications:
Degree (Bsc/Msc/PhD) in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or another related field
>2 years of technical experience with performing analytics on different samples, preferably in an industrial setting
Experience working with GC-MS, GC-FID, and/or LC-MS
Experience in analytical method development/optimization
Experience in statistical analysis
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English



Bonus points:
Experience with methods for lipid analytics (FAME, lipidomics, etc.)
Experience with lipid QC/QA (e.g. PV, AV, etc.)
Experience with HPLC
Experience with extraction/analysis of lipids from biological samples
Basic programming skills (e.g. R, Python)
Swedish/EU citizen or permanent resident
