Our dynamic and expanding workplace employs around 130 people at a centrally located, activity-based HQ office in Stockholm, with an additional 200 employees in seven centres globally.
The role
We are seeking a Senior Communications and Impact Officer to play a strategic role at the heart of SEI’s climate communications work. Our mission is to leverage scientific knowledge and communication within SEI’s mandate to catalyse systemic change, engage key partners, and empower researchers in addressing global environmental challenges. By showcasing innovative solutions, amplifying findings through media and networking, we strive to influence policy agendas, provoke behavioural change and accelerate sustainable development for a prosperous future for all.

Key duties and responsibilities
Collaborate with the SPE Climate lead to craft and execute SEI’s annual workplan for Strategic Policy Engagement (SPE) on climate.
Lead communication and impact strategies for ICRA (International Climate Risk and Adaptation) team projects.
Stay updated on international climate policy discussions and developments, identifying and pursuing opportunities.
Lead communications outputs that showcase SEI’s research or relevant news, such as op-eds, policy briefs, events and media briefings.
Coordinate SEI’s engagement and visibility during the annual COP and act as SEI’s UNFCCC focal point.
Support knowledge sharing on international climate policy and nurture external partnerships to maximize communication opportunities.
Offer strategic content advice and editorial input, especially for the @SEIClimate Twitter/X channel.
Uphold and enhance SEI’s communication policies and standards, emphasizing continuous learning and improvement – specifically in monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL).

Formal qualifications and knowledge
Master’s degree in communications, journalism or an equivalent qualification.
At least eight years of experience in PR, communications journalism or a related field.
Excellent communication skills in English, for both technical and public audiences.
Strong project management skills.
Experience with digital communication practices and technology (WordPress, social media)
Experience identifying audiences/audience mapping and working with stakeholders.
Experience working in international, multi-disciplinary teams.
Demonstrable familiarity with monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) methodologies such as the theory of change, most significant change or monitoring log-frame.

Required personal skills
Strong interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to network within the research and policy sphere.
Passion for environment, climate and development issues.
Positive influence on team attitudes and capable of providing constructive feedback.

Additional information
This full-time permanent position is based at SEI HQ in Stockholm, Sweden.
SEI has a hybrid work environment, which allows employees to share their time between the SEI office and working remotely from their homes in Sweden. Having a permit and permission to live and work in the EU/EEA is a plus. Please note that it is not possible to work outside of Sweden.
The start date is as soon as possible or by arrangement.
