Business Area Markets / Fundamental Analysis is looking for the right candidate to fill the position of Senior Fundamental Analyst in our office in Hamburg.

The role
As Senior fundamental analyst you will be part of a highly professional and international team of skilled analysts. You provide high quality analyses of our Continental power markets and drive the development of our fundamental price forecasting model landscape. Your work has high impact on the success of our trading and asset optimization businesses, and you contribute to decision making on a corporate level.

About us
Business Area Markets maximises the value of Vattenfall’s portfolio by optimising, dispatching, hedging and sourcing for Vattenfall’s assets and sales positions. As part of the Fundamental Analysis department, we deliver models and analyses on commodity markets, deals and assets. We provide scenario-based forecasts of power prices and analysis of price drivers to support decision making in the traded market horizon and beyond.

Main Tasks & Responsibilities
You will analyse the Central European power markets and the future of the power system in order to understand its implications for Vattenfall’s assets and business. With your work you provide important input for the planning of our assets, development of trading strategies, valuation of power plants, as well as ad-hoc analysis for decision support. Our analysis is based on fundamental power forecasting models covering our core markets on the continent and in the Nordics.
Your main tasks as a Senior Fundamental Analyst are:
Active engagement with our stakeholders in BA Markets and Vattenfall Group to understand their specific needs
Support our stakeholders with fundamental power market analysis for decision support. In particular:

– Provide price prognosis and ad-hoc power market analyses as active decision support
– Close interaction with and support our Trading business with fundamental market insights
– Operation and development of our fundamental power price models
Drive the development of our power model landscape
The job contains programming



Qualifications
You hold a mathematical degree (e.g. engineering, mathematics, physics, or equivalent qualifications and experience) and several years of relevant work experience
You have gained deep understanding of the CWE power markets, preferably even good knowledge of the Nordic market, carbon and fuels markets
Expertise in quantitative methods, power modelling, mathematical optimisation
High computer literacy, in particular programming skills, preferably Python
Excellent English language skills, both verbally and written; German language skills are a plus
