Vacancy: Senior Librarian

 

RWI is an academic institution with offices and programs covering 40 countries. We combine evidence-based human rights research and education with direct engagement in close collaboration with our partners to bring about human rights change for all. In the spirit of the SDGs we work on human rights issues in the global North and South. The RWI library in Lund is the largest specialized human rights library in Northern Europe. Summary

The Raoul Wallenberg Institute seeks candidates for the position as Senior Librarian to our head office in Lund.

The Senior Librarian’s primary responsibilities are to ensure the effective planning, management, as well as the further development, of the collection and services offered by the Library. Those activities include library support and advice for libraries in some developing countries where RWI operates.  

This is a full-time position and you will be reporting to the Director of Research and Education. Start date is as soon as possible.

A valid work permit in the EU is a requirement.

 

Main Tasks and Responsibilities 


• Manage the RWI Library incl. budgets;
• Acquire periodicals, monographs and electronic resources to the Library;
• Catalogue and classify books and periodicals in all available media;
• Assist researchers, members of the staff and others associated with the Institute, students and other visitors in finding the desired material in the Library and/or by using on-line resources;
• Be updated on new publications and on-line resources relevant for the Library;
• Organize teaching and pedagogic activities in information literacy;
• Participate in professional networks, in particular at Lund University Libraries
• Offer advice and support to libraries in developing countries as part of RWI capacity strengthening programs;
• Take a leading role in identifying and accessing sources of funding for the RWI library 's collection and services;
• Take a leading role in outlining and pursuing a vision for a modern specialised academic library in the digital era;
• Act as the central administrator of the Institute´s learning management system (LMS).

The position will require some international travel within RWI support activities for libraries abroad.



Required skills


• Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS)
• Significant professional experience in public librarianship, preferably within an academic context;
• Considerable knowledge of means and methods of international and national library systems, including relevant and updated IT skills
• Fluency in English with very good oral and writing skills
• Ability to plan, coordinate and organise work independently with in-depth understanding of its strategic direction

 Preferred skills


• Knowledge in the field of human rights
• Experience of work in developing countries
