We are currently looking for a Senior Research Scientist (Next Generation Sequencing) for a consultant assignment at AstraZeneca.

This is an exciting opportunity for a strong Next Generation Sequencing scientist (NGS) to contribute experimentally and intellectually to projects and the development of NGS discipline.

You will apply your proven NGS expertise and passion for driving projects and novel science. Leading from the bench, you will devise, develop, execute and analyze a variety of NGS experiments including, RNA-Seq, amplicon-Seq, Whole Genome Sequencing and Exon Sequencing. In addition, you will be involved in developing and bringing in-house the latest NGS techniques from the literature. This will require excellent technical skills and understanding of NGS, molecular biology and genetic modification in combination with excellent collaborative and communication skills.

The role
The role involves proposing experimental strategies, troubleshooting and making a significant contribution to the practical delivery of NGS projects as well as novel science to advance our capability and for external presentation.

The following skills are highly desirable:

Extensive hands on NGS experimental techniques including;

• RNA preparation
• DNA isolation and fragmentation
• Fragment analysis and nucleic acid Q.C.
• Library preparation
• Operation of NGS instrumentation, ideally Illumina platforms
• Processing, handling and movement of large sets of data
• LIMS systems to track experiments and samples
Significant molecular biology skills, including PCR, analysis and Q.C.

Accountabilities
Contribute to the design and execution of experimental procedures based on your expertise in NGS and by incorporating the views of others.
To interpret experimental data.
To maintain an awareness of current developments in the literature.

Technical Lead
A hands-on, lab-based role as a technical specialist in NGS. The focus is on effective planning, communication, delivery, troubleshooting and putting ideas into action in support of drug discovery projects and novel research.

Minimum experience
Ph. D. degree or Bachelor’s/Master’s degree with comparable working experience in a related scientific discipline within the NGS arena in a leading academic institution.
