University Animal Hospital
The University animal hospital (UDS) at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) is one of Sweden’s largest animal hospitals. UDS is a resource for research and the clinical training of veterinary students and veterinary nurses at the Faculty of Veterinary Science, SLU. UDS has approximately 200 employees that provide high quality animal care to cats, dogs, exotic pets, horses and has an ambulatory service for farm animals.
The Diagnostic Imaging Clinic at UDS is the largest in Sweden and one of the largest Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging Sections in Europe, and we offer standard small and large animal track ECVDI residency programmes. In 2014 UDS moved into a new facility that is one of Europe´s most modern animal hospitals. The Diagnostic Imaging Clinic does small and large animal diagnostic imaging for UDS patients, operates a Diagnostic imaging service for external small and large animal patients and a teleradiology service for images sent in from external clinics in Sweden. The clinic is equipped with small and large animal radiography, small animal fluoroscopy, small and large animal ultrasound, small and large animal 64-slice CT, 1.5 T small animal MRI, 0.27 T equine standing MRI, small and large animal nuclear medicine including a hotlab. The clinic has many international contacts and often has foreign vets visiting or working with us.

The clinic currently has 11 radiologists (six Dip ECVDI, five Swedish specialists in diagnostic imaging in dogs and cats, two candidates for the British certificate of DI) and 8 technical staff. Our nurses/technicians are specialized and work only with diagnostic imaging.

The University Animal Hospital is located in Uppsala, a university city about 60 km north of Stockholm. The area is perfectly located to enjoy the Swedish forests and outdoor activities. In winter excellent long distance skating and cross-country skiing areas are within 5 km of the vet school. Uppsala is surrounded by forests, where there are extensive hiking trails, and in summer the many lakes in the area provides great opportunities for swimming and sailing. Being a student city, Uppsala offers a full range of social activities and central Stockholm is 35 minutes away by train. Stockholm airport is located only 40 km from Uppsala. Last, but not least, you will experience a friendly atmosphere here at the clinic with opportunities for social activities.

Duties:

• The position of a senior radiologist includes daily clinical diagnostic imaging work, teaching and supervision of residents, students and other co-workers, participation and development of research projects, optimization and development of the diagnostic imaging modalities and performing diagnostic imaging examinations in the clinic.
• You will be part of a team of highly experienced staff, use high quality equipment, experience a high caseload with many interesting cases and work in a rewarding environment where clinical work, research, and teaching meet in a natural way.
• Both Swedish and English are used as working language in the department

Qualifications:

• A veterinary degree that is recognized in Sweden and allows for registration as a veterinarian in Sweden
• International board certification in veterinary diagnostic imaging, such as Dip ECVDI, DACVR
• or candidates who have recently completed an approved residency programme in veterinary radiology and are eligible to sit the board certification examination of the ECVDI or ACVR.
• Fluent in spoken and written English

Assessment criteria


• The selection will be based upon the written application and an interview where qualifications, collaboration and communication skills together with other personal qualities are important.
• PhD and postgraduate studies in veterinary diagnostic imaging is considered a strong merit for the position since the university animal hospital endeavor and shield a close cooperation and exchange between the clinical and academical work.
• Specialist experience in working with the diagnostic imaging modalities; radiography, ultrasound, CT, MRI and scintigraphy
• Specialist experience in small and large animal diagnostic imaging is considered a strong merit for the position, but radiologists who have only worked with small or large animals will be considered
• Fluency in spoken Swedish is considered a strong merit for the position. Non-Swedish speaking successful applicants will be expected to learn spoken Swedish within a period of 2 years
