Assistant Technical Advisor for Special and Inclusive Education Duty station: Kabul Afghanistan 2 years Scope of Work Special/Inclusive Education is a core component in Swedish Committee for Afghanistan's disability programme called RAD (Rehabilitation of Afghans with Disability). RAD aims at promoting inclusion in normal schools and equal access to other activities for children with hearing, seeing and learning difficulties by conducting preparatory and supportive training, advocating for inclusion and enhancing awareness on related issues among communities, civil society actors and authorities. The Assistant Technical Advisor (ATA) will work closely together with the Special/Inclusive Education Senior Officer of the RAD technical unit in developing a comprehensive strategy for children with special needs as well as monitoring the Special/Inclusive education activities of the programme. S/he will build the professional capacity of the special education teachers in the programme through practical training and follow up in different methodologies especially in speech therapy, total communication/learning difficulties and inclusive education. A special effort will be made at furthering RADs work within inclusive education, where the ATA will be involved in both advocacy, policy and strategy work on a national level with other actors involved in disability, and in practical development of methods, approaches and materials on project level. The ATA will contribute to linking RAD to ongoing international research and networks within the related field. Essential Job Functions - To give advice in order to develop the quality and impact of special/inclusive education service within RAD - To support the national Special/Inclusive Education Technical officer - To participate in reviewing and monitoring progress of implementation activities in RAD - To organize upgrading modules for different categories of special education workers (Special Education Officers, Special Education Resource Persons and Special Education Teachers) - To work in team with other rehabilitation workers in RAD, and outside RAD with education and other sectors - Assist in developing better methods for assessments and production of special education materials - Disseminate information and upgrading of international developments within special/inclusive education that are of relevance for RAD programme work. - Have a basic knowledge of recent development of Community Based Rehabilitation - To assist in identifying needs for training and capacity building - To train and encourage skills associated with running a professional association - To participate in arranging workshops, seminars and trainings - To write and submit reports about the work after fieldtrips, trainings and other such activities Entry Requirements Qualifications: University Bachelors Degree in pedagogies special education or equivalent Experience: Professional profile and experience of special and inclusive education Experience in teaching and preparation of curricula and training materials Others: Experience in developing countries as asset Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Good planning, analytical and troubleshooting skills Team worker Ability to cope with a stressful environment Proficiency in English essential Knowledge of Dari and/or Pashto an asset IT and computer literate SCA offers a competitive salary, free housing, insurances and other benefits.
