Steel Mill Facility Engineering Lead
The Steel Mill Facility Engineering Lead is responsible for the building and utility system design delivery of the massive steel plant we are building in Boden. As engineering lead in our vertically integrated EPCm team, you are the owner’s representative who ultimately owns the design of the facility, responsible for setting the basis of design, managing our internal discipline resources, and managing our external engineering partner(s) to ensure progress and optimal outcome aligned with our ambitious targets on cost and timing. You will be responsible to ensure coordination of our engineering partner, construction activities on site, but also critical input from our main equipment vendors.

This requires all of our people to bring leadership with innovative, creative, “art of the possible” approaches to problem solving and improvements. As a key leader, you will also be responsible for driving this approach with our suppliers and engineering partners.

As steel mill facility engineering lead, you will report to the Head of Engineering but you will also participate in the cross-functional Steel plant delivery team which includes project management, construction management, project cost and schedule controllers, procurement, and manufacturing process engineering.

Responsibilities:

- Own H2GS building and utility (CSA+MEPC) engineering and design for the steel plant.
- Provide leadership and guidance on developing the engineering and design strategy, concepts, and detailed engineering.
- Manage engineering work to ensure compliance to codes, standards, regulations, equipment specifications, and process equipment operating targets.
- Participate and provide inputs to frequent and regular cross-functional project reviews, forecasting, and resource allocations.
- Continuously collaborate and provide inputs to project management, construction management, and project controls for design and construction cost and integrated schedule forecasting.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, vendors, and other end users in challenging user inputs and requirements for facility design.
- Coordinate and drive regular design development reviews to ensure requirements and safety compliance, constructability, and adherence to minimum technical scope, along with providing leadership in regular cost and schedule continuous improvement and optimization efforts.
- Provide leadership in collaboration with discipline leads with the onboarding and management of design discipline teams and resources.
- Advancing quality achievement and performance improvement throughout the organization.
- Managing the development and implementation of Field Technical Services team consisting of H2GS, Process Equipment Vendor, and 3rd party personnel.
- Manage ongoing field QA to support quality installation work.
- Develop or select engineering and design standards and procedures to ensure that quality requirements are met and consistent.
- Preparing and optimizing design budgets.
- Deliver engineering work on time, on budget, and with excellent quality.


Requirements

- Making a safe work environment a priority.
- Subject matter expertise in either Civil/Structural/Architectural (CSA) or Mechanical/Electrical/Process/Controls (MEPC) industrial facility design
- Substantial previous working experience in major capital projects in heavy industry; specific experience in Steel Mill facility design considered a strong plus.
- Experience in project planning, execution (including construction realities), management, and communication with all stakeholders in large successful capital projects.
- Extensive experience in working with construction engineers and field contractors on large capital projects
- Must be knowledgeable about industry best practices and change management.
- Recent experience managing engineering and construction activities in large capital projects
- Preferred experience from managing engineering partners as a project owner’s representative.
