System Engineer

Your role

All important aircraft functionality needs a presentation in the cockpit. Just like your smart phone a JAS Gripen needs continuous updates. When new functions are added the user interface get upgrades. The Gripen cockpit consists of displays, panels, knobs, buttons and a joystick.

These are the tools that the pilot use to operate the aircraft. We have recently introduced a wide area display which gives us enhanced possibilities to create an optimized overview for the pilot. As a HMI system developer you will investigate what is needed for the pilot to solve a specific task and create a successful solution.

The main tasks:

* Develop the Human Machine Interface for all kind of functions in the cockpit
* Analyze what information that needs to be displayed and controlled
* Specify requirements for a function or a situation
* Find, prepare, propose and document a design solution
* Test and verify the design in rigs and simulators

Your profile

You have a university degree preferably in engineering and/or usablity. Your working experience includes development of systems containing software. You have the ability to gather information, sort out what is important and transform that into requirements.

You are a patient problem solver using a systematic approach, but at any moment ready to take other opinions into account. You support the team striving for the overall best solution.

You co-operates well with colleagues from other disciplines when trying to find your way forward. Your social skills are important, it is necessary being a loyal and communicative team player.

Required skills

* Bachelor degree in Engineering or Information Systems Analysis or Cognitive Science
* Minimum five years of developing complex technical systems
* Excellent communication skills in English, verbal and written



Desired skills:

* Basic knowledge in programming
* Understanding of usability and ergonomics
*

Fluent in Swedish, verbal and written


This position requires that you will be approved in a security screening in accordance with the Swedish Protective Security Act.

What you will be a part of

The job consists of both detailed design at your desk and active information gathering, a mix of being both introvert and extrovert. The introvert part calls for the ability to stay focused on the task, to keep on, to refine and to iterate until a final design solution appears. The extrovert part applies to your social skills, to learn from others, to seek information from co-workers at other technical disciplines and to investigate if something similar has been made before. In the end it will all melt down into a conclusion and with support from your colleagues you will be able to present your design and type it down as requirements.

Your design will be realized by our colleagues at the nearby software department. The functions are then tested in rigs and simulators until demands and expectations are fulfilled. Finally you will see the Gripen take off from the runway here in Tannefors, with your design uploaded in the aircraft. We work as a team, sharing our knowledge and experiences. It is a true team effort to succeed with our task, to make a world class HMI airborne.
