Technical Engineer

Better Shelter is looking for an ambitious and flexible Technical Engineer with a passion for improving the lives of forcibly displaced persons by providing temporary shelters.

About the company

Better Shelter RHU AB is a humanitarian innovation project and social enterprise based in Stockholm, Sweden. Our mission is to improve the lives of refugees and IDPs by providing temporary, yet safe, homes. The project started in 2010 in collaboration with the Ikea Foundation and the UN Refugee Agency, UNHCR. Since 2015, Better Shelter has delivered more than 60,000 shelters to refugee camps in over 60 countries worldwide. The modular homes are delivered in flat packages and can be set up in a few hours without tools or electricity.

About the role

This is a temporary position with start in December 2020 to March 2021, with possible extension to April. So if you are a flexible and hands on type of Technical Engineer, have a great understanding of building and maintaining relationships with partners and customers and willing to strive for a world in which all people have a safe place to call home then you might be the one for the job!

You will work with all of the companies 10 employees and they are all very motivated and engaged in the company and the mission. The duties will span from taking part in strategic analysis to cleaning the workshop. You will also be required to support partners outside of traditional office hours due to partners working in different time zones, and in humanitarian emergencies.

Responsibilities

Write technical documents as part of a R&D projectProvide remote support to humanitarian partners during pilot project, with technical questions, as well as participate in monitoring and evaluating for the projectSupport Head of Product DevelopmentConduct remote trainingsWrite support documents for customersSupport Sales and Marketing in documentations, presentations, demos, events etc.Support with technical knowledgeFor the company other relevant duties

Experience and competencies

Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering, Construction, Architect or similarFluent in English (spoken and written) is a requirement.Experience in working with product development and designProficiency in writing technical documentsKnowledge in the following software is a plus: Sketch Up, AutoCAD, Adobe CS, MS Office, Solid WorksSwedish and Arabic is a plusExperience from Humanitarian work is a plusMin 2-3 years of relevant work experience
