Job description
Investigation of biotransformation of antisense oligonucleotides using liquid chromatography-high-resolution mass spectrometry and radioactivity detections.
Do you want to learn the state-of-the-art technology in analytical chemistry? Would you like to learn and build on your expertise in biotransformation of oligonucleotide therapeutics in a company that follows the science and turns ideas into life changing medicines? Then AstraZeneca might be of interest to you!
Thesis project: 30 credits
Student location: AstraZeneca, Gothenburg, Sweden
Start: January 2022
Early CVRM is one of the three main therapeutic research areas within AstraZeneca which deliver candidate drugs into late-stage clinical development. Early CVRM is a global function with research units in Gaithersburg, US, Cambridge, UK and Gothenburg, Sweden. DMPK Drug Design and Biotransformation team is part of the DMPK department and based in AstraZeneca’s world-class R&D center in Gothenburg Sweden. DMPK interacts with other functions in supporting CVRM projects all along the value chain, from target selection all the way to market launch and Life cycle management.
Responsibilities
Oligonucleotides are a new class of drug molecules of increasing interest for a range of therapeutic indications. The analytical technologies and data processing approaches that apply in biotransformation of oligonucleotides are challenging and requiring further improvement.
We propose an opportunity to work closely with our scientists to investigate several key steps in the analytical method development for metabolite profiling of antisense oligonucleotides in biological samples, including sample preparation, separation, and detection. Data processing methods will also be evaluated by comparing a few different softwares. High resolution mass spectrometry as well as radioactivity detection will be used. Results of this study are expected to contribute significantly to the development of the best-in-practise bioanalytical and data processing approach for biotransformation studies in oligonucleotide platform.
Qualifications
Essential Requirements
Expertise in analytical chemistry
Good communication skills in English
Desirable Requirements
Background in Chemistry, Organic chemistry, or biochemistry.
