Two PhD students to the division Analysis and Probability Theory

The Department of Mathematical Sciences at the Chalmers University of Technology and the University of Gothenburg is the largest mathematics department in Sweden with about 200 employees, including more than 50 PhD students. Project description
We are looking for two PhD students at the division Analysis and Probability Theory.

The first position is in the field of discrete probability theory. The aim of the project is to better understand the fundamental properties of lattice gauge theories, such as how these relate, compare, and contrast to the analogous properties of e.g. the Ising model.The candidate will be supervised by Malin Palö Forsström.

For the second position, the research project can be in any area represented at the division, including harmonic and functional analysis, mathematical physics, partial differential equations and probability theory.

Major responsibilities
As a PhD student you will be part of an international research environment while you expand your knowledge of the field and write your thesis. This gives opportunities for many inspiring conversations, a lot of autonomous work and some travel. You are expected to develop your own ideas and communicate scientific results orally as well as in written form. In addition, the position will normally include 20% departmental work, mostly teaching duties.

Qualifications
A master's degree in mathematics or other relevant field, corresponding to at least 240 higher education credits, or expected to complete such a degree by 1 September 2024. Good verbal and written communication skills in English. If Swedish is not your native language, Chalmers offers Swedish courses.

Contract terms
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of five years.
