UX Designer- Sound

The department Driver Interaction & Infotainment are responsible for the development of Volvo Cars Infotainment and Driver Information and Audio systems. Within this department there are five section departments and one of them is the section responsible for the Digital User eXperience, called „DUX development center". Our vision is "To create the most desirable and Meaningful Digital User Experience, that builds a Relationship with our customers". We are around 50 employees working with the tasks to define and secure the User Interaction solution for the touch screen in the Center stack, the Driver info display in front of the driver and the windscreen Head Up display.

The section DUX Development Center consist of three groups, DUX Framework, DUX Driving and DUX Infotainment. Our deliveries are in the car projects as well as advanced engineering and research assignments. Our mission is to set the framework for the DUX solution for all applications in the car, e.g. Driver information, Driver support, Navigation, Entertainment and more. We are a crucial part to make the digital User Experience of the Volvo Car to a smooth and strategically well thought solution. Our responsibility is research and requirement setting serving as input to the sister groups who creates the logic and behavior of the applications and features. We are also responsible for the HMI prototyping, HMI test cars and HMI lab, as well as performing UI and UB test and evaluation. The team are having deliveries in both early advanced engineering phase and industrialization phase. We have interaction design and/or behavioural science as background, as well as software developers. Our skills are divided on the following roles: DUX Function Owner, DUX research Lead and DUX UI&UB testing and DUX Prototype developer.

As a DUX responsible for Sound Interaction you will explore and put requirements on ways in which sound should be used to convey information, encourage action, meaning, aesthetic and emotional qualities in interactive contexts. Examples of a sound interaction is the sonic feedback illustrated by an interactive sound used during a low speed manoeuvring (parking assistant system, PAS), seat belt reminder sonic feedback and touchscreen sonic feedback. Sound effect the driver as well as the passenger. You will be the link between feature owner and the sound designer, sitting in another department. You will also be part of the implementation and verify the requirement fulfilment.

Main responsibilities

* Establish, safeguard and maintain strategy regarding the DUX area.
* Benchmarking of competitors and customer electronics area.
* The description of the function - FDA.
* Compile complete vehicle requirements for the function - FDR.
* Verification plan (AVB) including all analysis and verification activities, regarding the function, both generic and per program.

Required qualifications

* Post graduate specializing in behavioural science, cognitive science, interaction design human / machine interaction or 4 years of equivalent knowledge obtained from practical experience
* General computer skills is required and knowledge of the following programs: MS Visio, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator
* Work experience within the UX/UI field is meritorious
* Driving license valid in Sweden
* Interest in cars and the challenges in different kinds of driving
* Experience from lean production and other production working systems is meritorious
