About the job
You identify, develop, and use theoretical and practical know-how related to Materials Engineering to support and improve product performance within Rotary & Raise boring rock drilling applications.
Your main responsibilities are to support manufacturing of current product portfolio and product development with regards to material selection, heat treatment and arc welding. You plan and develop lab tests for evaluating product and component quality and performance, both of current product portfolio and during development of new products. Another exciting part of your job is to drive method development for product and component validation in lab environment with regards to material and wear properties. Also, you support and revise current procurement and manufacturing requirements.
We work in a complex setting with many interfaces, where strong collaboration is central. For us this means sharing knowledge, supporting colleagues, inspiring others, and showing true team spirit. You make sure to keep all our stakeholders in the loop, focusing on your close interactions with both local and global R&D teams. This position is based in Sandviken, and some travel may occur.
About you
You have an M.Sc. in Materials Science, Metallurgy, or another similar area, combined with a few years’ from working in the field. You have both knowledge and practical experience from working with lab evaluation of steels using equipment such as light optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. This means that you’re skilled in identifying opportunities, and in understanding the usefulness of common metallurgical phenomena with regards to commercially available steels as well as tailoring suitable properties needed for product development. A background within steel manufacturing as well as having a basic understanding of tribology and hard facing welding is a clear advantage. Acting in our global environment, you also need to communicate fluently in English, while knowledge of Swedish is beneficial.
