Human Rights and Gender Coordinator Duty station: SCA Management Office, Kabul, Afghanistan Background and Scope of Work Swedish Committee for Afghanistan (SCA) - is a major Swedish NGO with 25 years of experience from opinion work in Sweden and from carrying out activities/projects in Afghanistan.In Sweden SCA works as a member driven association based on popular commitment and support, making effort to affect the public opinion by providing knowledgeable and reliable information about Afghanistan in order to increase sustainable cooperation and assistance in a spirit of solidarity.SCA runs large development programmes within the sectors of Education, Health, Disability and Rural Development.The cross-cutting Human Rights & Gender Unit (HRGU) has the role of ensuring that a rights-based and gender aware approach is mainstreamed throughout all project cycles and programme frameworks.To this end the unit builds capacity within the programmes and trains staff, develops tools and methods, sets up targets and benchmarks while monitoring progress, and conducts advocacy and networks within civil society.The unit also has an advisory role in gender issues vis-a-vis support units such as Administration and Human Resource Management.Responsibilities * Capacity building: Identify, design, plan, implement and monitor appropriate training packages for unit members, SCA staff and partner organisations.Facilitate appropriate linkages with external training and capacity building institutions.* Technical backstopping for mainstreaming: Design, develop and apply appropriate tools and methods for mainstreaming of a rights-based and gender aware approach.* Advice, monitoring and evaluation: Technically support and qualitatively monitor the implementation of human rights and gender mainstreaming within SCA programming.Conduct case studies and minor research for learning.Advise on, and monitor, compliance with rights and gender aware approaches within support units such as Administration and Human Resource Management.* Advocacy and networking: Contribute to advocacy on rights-based issues within SCA programme areas.Network among rights-based civil society actors.Contribute to increased capacity and institution building measures towards relevant ministries.* Coordination and cooperation: Promote the development of Afghan civil society through coordination, cooperation and partnerships * Planning and Reporting: Develop applications, plans, budget and reports for SCA's Human Rights and Gender work * Supervision: Supervise and guide the unit members Entry Requirements * Masters degree, or equivalent, in relevant professional field * Professional profile within rights-based programming, gender awareness, advocacy and strengthening of civil society, with an established career in international development * Minimum 4 years professional experience on managerial levels * Experience of work in Muslim countries a must * Familiarity with results-based management, conducting case studies and minor research * Familiarity with planning, proposal development and reporting * Proficiency in English as professional working language.
