Gotland University with 200 employees is a meeting place for academy, culture and business in the Baltic Sea Region. The university is offering education alternatives within a broad spectrum of disciplines for 2200 full time students. Education for sustainable development and international co-operation are central activities on the University's agenda. The Swedish government has commissioned Gotland University (Högskolan på Gotland) to establish the Swedish International Centre for Education for Sustainable Development (SWEDESD). Gotland University will host the Centre and Sida will be the financer. The Centre will work with formal and informal education for sustainable devel - opment, and will cooperate vith policy-makers and educators in developing countries. The Director will be responsible for establishing and managing the Centre with a future staff of around ten full time positions and a budget financied by Sida (Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency).
