Project Coordinator Duty Station: Mazar-e-Sharif / Kabul, Afghanistan Scope of Work Swedish Committee for Afghanistan (SCA) has been actively involved in the Afghan education, health and rehabilitation of disable Afghans for more than 25 years, engaging in both service delivery and capacity building.The Sida-funded Northern Development Project is to be implemented in the northern provinces of Samangan, Balkh and Jawzjan over a two year period, starting in spring 2008.The project consists of two packages: (1) to contribute to access to quality basic education, with a priority for girls, through the construction of 18 new school buildings, and (2) to contribute to poverty reduction by promoting access, inclusion, quality and rehabilitation within Education and Disability - sectors where SCA has long-standing experience and expertise.The project approach is development-oriented and is to encompass measures which ensure that communities are empowered to be centrally involved throughout the project cycle.Roll-out is to take place in a gradual manner, in which new interventions are piloted and evaluated in a limited number of districts prior to replication and expansion.The initial 6-month phase of the project, which the Project Coordinator is to lead, includes concluding the detailed project design, conducting in-depth assessments, baseline studies and stakeholder consultations, setting up the operations as well as appropriate supervision and monitoring systems, and initiating project roll-out.The Coordinator is also to establish appropriate mechanisms for collaboration with, and capacity building of, local authorities, relevant line ministries and possible national partner organisations/institutions. Entry Requirements Qualifications: .University degree, Masters or equivalent, within relevant field Experience: Professional profile within field of coordination and management of integrated development schemes, with substantial experience of feasibility studies, project/programme design, baseline studies, capacity building and management for results.Following are considered assets: .Experience of working with community mobilisation and gender issues in conservative societies .Experience of development work in Muslim communities .Experience from a post-conflict environment Others: .Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work in teams under stressful conditions .Training and facilitation skills .Good analytical and troubleshooting skills .Full pproficiency in English (Dari and/or Pashto a merit) .IT literate, including data base management Contract period: 6 months, with possible extension SCA offers a competitive salary, free housing, insurances and other benefits.Duties to begin in May 2008.Only qualified applicants will be notified.
