We are now looking for a R&D Engineer at ABB Machines in Västerås, Sweden. In this position you will contribute ideas for innovative technology developments and solutions, working to solve industrial problems. You will contribute creative ideas to R&D projects, as well as propose follow-up projects and activities based on new ideas.
This position reports to Manager of Product Line Maintenance.
Your responsibilities
At Product Line Maintenance you will be responsible for different type of small scale development projects.
Typical project targets are improvements of product performance, developing of new features according to customer demands, standardization and material optimization for cost effectiveness, design for assembly to simplify production and solve quality issues found in the base design.
Normally you will be responsible for such project individually, including planning and execution.
To your help you have well experienced colleagues with different skills.
Spread your technical/scientific knowledge and assist colleagues in applying specialist processes and tools to ensure results.
Participate in networks in your research area, including relevant academic networks.
Submit patent applications to strengthen ABB’s strategic position, and helping to safeguard ABB's intellectual property.

Your background
A university degree within relevant field
Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical design of rotating machines
Knowledge of work towards standards and regulations for heavy industries
Knowledge of any of the commercial 3D CAD software
Comfortable in performing analyzes and FMEA’s
Experience of risk assessments and product safety in accordance with Machinery Directive
A solution-focused approach and strong written and spoken communication skills
Fluency in both English and Swedish
