Senior Lecturer in Education for Sustainable Development Gotland University is seeking a senior Lecturer in the field of Education for Sustainable Development for its Swedish International Centre of Education for Sustainable Development (SWEDESD), established in 2008 and funded by Sida. The Institution Gotland University ? a young and congenial institution of higher education and research in Visby ? is constructing a unique Liberal Education environment for interdisciplinary, cross-cultural and sustainability studies. SWEDESD?s goal is to advance the content, methods and policies of learning and education that empower people, communities and organizations to exercise significant positive influence on their livelihoods and well-being under conditions of environmental sustainability, social justice and economic equity and viability. The Centre?s programs are demand-driven and process-oriented. Activities are developed and implemented in close cooperation with selected partner organizations and networks in the Global South including Sida?s partner countries. By means of training & learning, research & development and communication & knowledge exchange, SWEDESD is working with persons and organizations (with special attention to those associated with poverty alleviation) to develop and strengthen their capacity to formulate, engage in and commit to choices leading to sustainable change. The position and responsibilities The senior Lecturer is member of a small interdisciplinary team of dedicated professionals, who have the ambition to make SWEDESD a central international network node in the domain of learning and decision making for strong sustainability. The position includes research and development work, teaching, administration and evaluation. The Senior Lecturer will provide intellectual leadership in the management, design and implementation of the Centre?s learning, research and communication programs and activities, with special reference to the educational dimensions of sustainable development and sustainable change. The Senior Lecturer will initiate, promote, design, manage, implement and evaluate (policy and action) research and educational and outreach programs and activities, in close collaboration with other units of Gotland University, networks and experts in Sweden and partner organizations in Africa and Asia. The Senior Lecturer will take the lead in conceptualizing, researching and operationalizing the educational, pedagogical, learning, decision making and behavioral change aspects of SWEDESD?s substantive areas of interest: simulations, scenario building and game technology; ESD methods and curricula; sustainability in education systems; food production and consumption; and, sustainable (social and community) enterprises. The Senior Lecturer will carry out her or his own research (minimum 25 %) and will perform other duties as a university teacher.
